Event Details
This workshop covers two low-toxicity camera-less photographic processes: Anthotypes and Light Sensitive Chromatography.
Learn how to make your own light sensitive photographic emulsions from vegetables and plants such as red cabbage, turmeric, beetroot and spinach leaves. During the day you will make a selection of coated papers, ready to take home and expose images onto in your own time. This process dates back to the victorian era and was one of the first ever forms of photography!
In the second half of the day, we will collect the left over plant and vegetable emulsions to use in the chromatography process. You will be guided through the technique of making a chromatogram - a way to visualise the internal chemistry of the vegetables that we made our emulsions from! Think of it as making an x-ray image of all the minerals, vitamins and everything else that’s inside the vegetable!
