MESSUMS CREATIVE
INDIVIDUALLY EMPOWERING THROUGH ACCESS, LEARNING, AND EXCELLENCE
“To make is to live; to make beautifully is to begin to understand.”
Creativity is a catalyst for connection, understanding, and change. At Messums Creative, we believe art is problem solving - a non-verbal language that binds us together and shapes our relationship with each other and the world.

OUR STORY
Messums Creative began with a simple question: What is the role of art, and what social responsibility does a gallery hold?
Art is problem solving. Music, dance, and making with your hands are ways we explore, understand, and connect with the world and each other. Yet this creative language isn’t accessible to everyone.
A gallery can change that. While galleries are often about profit, we imagined one where success also serves a social purpose - supporting access, learning, and participation in the arts.
In 2025, Messums Creative (Charity No. 1214246) was founded to turn this vision into reality. Our mission is to build an ecosystem of self-sustaining access, learning, and excellence in the arts - ensuring that making and experiencing art is not a privilege, but a shared opportunity.
OUR PURPOSE
To advance public education and appreciation of the arts by:
-
Establishing publicly accessible art venues and creative spaces.
-
Providing artist residencies that support exhibitions, workshops, and events.
-
Engaging communities and schools through outreach and creative programming.
Our approach is simple: creativity is a catalyst, and solutions are in our hands. By intertwining commercial enterprise with social purpose, we ensure that art serves both the individual and the wider community.

THOUGHT SHOPS
At the heart of Messums Creative are the Thought Shops - shared spaces where people come together to make, learn, and exchange ideas through art. Through workshops, courses, talks, events, and residencies, we work with artists, communities, schools, and partner organisations to create opportunities for learning and collaboration. Thought Shops are open to everyone, offering the time, space, and support to develop skills, test ideas, and work with others in a creative environment. We believe that creative activity can build wellbeing, hope, and resilience, and that small, well-designed projects can deliver meaningful and lasting social value.
