Drawn-In to Music and Movement | Drawing Workshop with Fran Quinlan | 18 April
This studio drawing and movement workshop allows us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in drawing and movement, working from music based on the 5 Rhythms of Gabrielle Roth where energy moves in waves, waves move in patterns, and so patterns move in rhythms.
Combining this essence of movement with drawing, based on the teachings of British visionary painter Cecil Collins, students will be guided to move fluidly, making marks onto paper.
You will be taken through a series of tasks from which you will find your own rhythm.
We will use a variety of tools such as feathers, stones, long sticks, sponges, fingers, brushes, inks, clay wash, charcoal, and chalks, all of which are provided alongside a roll of lining wallpaper. More paper rolls may be purchased on the day if needed.
Fran Quinlan is a visual artist whose work encompasses drawing, print, performance, sculpture, and installation. Fran has an intensely embodied process driven drawing practice, with a quiet ritualised character, exploring materiality and the transformative quality of paper; its visual and actual weight.
Meditative drawing processes are elemental to Fran for remaining grounded with stillness and time within the realm of perpetual motion.
An Alumnus of Arts University Bournemouth, Fran develops and delivers participatory workshops across a range of institutions and public settings, including her alma mater.
